Ah Streaky Bay or Streaker bay as Sooccer Boy Red Elephant likes to call it. At the top western side of the Eyre Peninsula
I’m sure on a sunny day would be quite pretty with the sun sparkling on the bay.
BUT right now with 50km winds blowing in my face all day I am not
feeling the love. Streaky is a small
town here for the fishing and surrounded by grain growers. The country is very flat and the roads in the
Eyre are all very long and straight. The
caravan park is on the bay foreshore, we are one row back from the beach. The sand on the beach is very grainy and
dirty looking. The towns here on the
Eyre are tiny , tiny, (yes two tinnies)
and we have decided that our own NSW south coast is by far prettier and
has nicer beaches and the lovely green mountains as a backdrop not to forget
the black and white cows.
The Red Elephants have enjoyed 2 scenic drives today, one to
the whistling rocks that did not whistle and to the blow holes that wumpth but
did not blow. However we did have some
more views of the Great Australian Bights cliffs. They definitely where because it said so on
the map.
The next scenic drive was to the see the sea lion colony at
Point Labett, this was a long drive in and we were rewarded with views of big
fat sea lions, more cliffs of the Great Australian Bight and the big Bonus what
seemed like 100 km winds just for a change.
I actually put my beanie on, I know ridiculous.
We had planned to stay here for 4 nights but with this wind
we fear the Red Elephants will be blown of course and end up in
Antarctica. Good job I have my
Beanie. So we will turn tale and head
for home and hopefully calmer weather.
